Taste4Success All Island Food & Drinks Skills Conference 2009

June 22nd, 2009 by Sharon

I attended the Taste4Success conference recently.  Over 100 people from all areas of the food and drink industry attended.

There were top class speakers on the day including Margaret Jeffares who gave a brief introduction to Good Food Ireland and the fantastic work it does to promote our producers abroad.  Margaret was just back from Boston where the Good Food Ireland team fed the Green Dragon crew at that leg of the Volvo Ocean Race.

Here are a few of the photos from the Conference

Peter Ward here of Country Choice after demonstrating his recipe for pint glass brown bread.   Peter also spoke earlier in the day on the opportunities for the artisan producer.

Well done to Bridie, Carmen, Jenny, John & Stephen on a very successful day at Cromleach Lodge in Sligo.

There will be further Taste4Success events in the future which I will let you know about.

Cannaboe Brownies

May 28th, 2009 by Sharon

I made a batch of brownies and sent them off to my ‘official tasters’.

Here is one reply

Hi Sharon
I take my tasting role very very seriously … and had only just got into the whole:

  • flavour
  • texture
  • lightness
  • overall look
  • yum factor

I didn’t tell you but I’m not a great fan of brownies because they always seem to taste quite dry.

Once again you have changed my mind with your delicious concoctions.

So … scores on my tasting criteria:

  • flavour - 5/5 - really tasty … loved the nuts and chocolate taste
  • texture - 5/5 - was nice and moist even thought it felt well put together
  • lightness - 5/5 - nice and light even though it has a lovely deep choc taste
  • overall look - 4/5 - looks good and had a kind of crumbly feel
  • yum factor - 6/5 - yum yum yum

Coco said she loved them as well.

Bring on more tastings.

xxx Liz

Blood Donation Clinic Returns Monday 8th June 2009

May 19th, 2009 by Sharon

Just to let everyone know that the Blood Donation Clinic returns to the Community Centre in Ballinamore on Monday 8th June 2009.  Clinic times are 3.00pm to 4.45pm and 7.00pm to 9.30pm.

We were below the 100 donations at the last clinic so we really need to get above this number at the next one or we may loose it to another town.

Thanks to everyone who attended the previous clinics.  Please try to get to this one and if you can get there please bring a friend.

Margaret made my wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses for my wedding fado fado.

I was very happy with them. So much so that I returned to Margaret when we were looking for a first Communion dress for my little girl. Again, I wasn’t disappointed.

Margaret has recently rebranded from Margarets Bridal Boutique to Serendipity Style.

Serendipity the word, is the effect by which someone accidently discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.

I was very fortunate to have had happened upon Margaret. She was able to make exactly what I was looking for.

Cupcake wedding tower

There were three different types of cupcakes;
chocolate with a chocolate buttercream topping and chocolate chips;
vanilla with a vanilla buttercream, coloured purple, to match the bridesmaids; and
carrot with a cream cheese topping.

I really enjoyed making these and look forward to trying new cupcake recipes to give a greater variety.

So, any brides out there with a cupcake recipe you would like me to try, send them on and I’ll give them a whirl.

Castle wedding cake

This wedding cake, made recently, was set up on a 12 foot table.

It is made up of 9 tiers of wedding cake, lemon maderia and fruit cake.  The 3 tier stacked cake was on a fountain stand and had a fairytale castle on top.

We set the cake up in the beautiful Manor House Hotel in Enniskillen.  Many thanks to Brona for all her help on the day.

Todays wedding fair at the Farnham Estate Hotel in Cavan was very busy.

The hotel’s wedding co-ordinator is Patsy.  I got her photo while the fashion show took place.
